Writing Life

The life most real to me. As evidenced by the preponderance of posts.

Hurray for Pirates!

I finally posted another chapter of my pirate fanfic.  People love pirates.  But it’s not just the fact it’s about pirates.  Honestly, I need to remember when I’m feeling down, to post another chapter of something.  Check these out: You know, I didn’t want to read this at first because I didn’t think I could […]

Plotting

Maybe I’ve finally figured something out. Maybe I should have figured it out a lot sooner.  It seems I don’t like to think about plot.  Characters, yes, scenes, fine, emotion and tension and conflict, good, okay, definitely–but plot?  I’ll make it up as I go along. One might guess this is not an efficient way

December? Already?

Who gave it permission to be December 1st?  Not me.  Not Bly.  What the heck? This is supposed to be my year.  Well, since last one apparently wasn’t.  I’m supposed to be at least one step closer to being published, demmit.  I think I do this rant every year.  So I’m going to stop now,

Expansion Plans

One good thing about writing fast–since the first book (which was NOT written quickly) I haven’t had anything that needed a lot of pruning.  Taro’s book is less than 70,000 words, so it actually needs to get longer.  Most publishers’ guidelines ask for 80-100k.  That’s not set in stone, but it is pretty inflexible.  Less

Oh. Goody.

Oh. Goody.

So Bly’s right. What I need to be doing, is NOT writing another book. Keen and Joss and all the other books will be there, and probably be better for a break. What I need to be doing, is editing. Eww! Okay, now that’s out of the way… I don’t really mind editing. The reading over my work part,

Stick a Fork in Me

I’m done.  Finished.  Kaput.  It’s over. Yeah, I know I’ll be back in the damned fight tomorrow.  I don’t really get to give up.  But tonight I’ve had it.  I’m going to pretend I can hide in my galaxy and never come out. Hey, there’s a reason Captain Eve Marcori can kick just about anyone’s

The Voices Won't Stop…

I wrote 1,993 words today, in a scene for Joss.  He’s the minor character in the NaNovel, who gets center-stage next time.   In the one just finished, he’s an innocent.  In his starring role, he most certainly is NOT. So this scene begins the change.  Yay for character growth!   But it’s too bad, too.  The
