And so is this damn blog page. Oh wait, there’s something there now. 😉
Yeah, sometimes you just gotta start writing. So what if you throw away that first sentence, that first paragraph, the first fifty pages? You’ll still be keeping more than you would have if you never started. It’s only paper (or–photons? I don’t know. But even cheaper, on the whole, than paper, since you’d have the computer to play solitaire on even if you didn’t write.)
It is perfectly okay to write garbage – as long as you edit brilliantly.–C.J. Cherryh
That, friends, is a quote from a fine writer and a fine person, and what she’s saying is what I’ve been saying (off and on when not ranting my outrage…) One of the many ways around the inner weasel is just to write and worry about fixing it later.
It’s none of their business that you have to learn to write. Let them think you were born that way.—Ernest Hemingway
I like that one. And how sad is this?
I have offended God and mankind because my work did not reach the quality it should have.–Leonardo da Vinci…as his last words
That, people, is an inner weasel the size of an elephant.
Many people die with their music still in them. Why is this so? Too often it is because they are always getting ready to live. Before they know it, time runs out. ~Oliver Wendell Holmes
So do it. Write if that’s what you want. Skydive, if that’s what you want. God gave you something special, it’s your job to find it. And we don’t get “do-overs.” One shot. Do it. Now.
