I don’t know what people expect. Make her behave, make her learn, make her nice to be around…Â
But–oh, no, don’t take away trick-or-treating! Don’t scold her, don’t make her write thirty times that she won’t do that anymore, for God’s sake don’t spank her, it only worked for all our ancestors. Don’t take her toys away, don’t make her go to her room, no, you can’t send her to bed without supper!
Don’t let her go to school without a coat if she left it there yesterday. Don’t let her go hungry if she spent her lunch money.
You’d think I was doing something really horrible. Like teaching her that actions have consequences. Getting her to look at the future!
Evil parent here. Yep, that’s me.Â
When she was little and she ran over people and I reprimanded her, they shushed me and told me it was cute. Not so cute when she’s over four foot tall and damned solid, is it?
I ought to just give up on disciplining her. This is, after all, “cute” behavior. She just takes it a little farther now she’s grown a bit. But it’s still cute, right?
