Because I need it, I’m going to pat myself on the back. It was a hideous day.
I am a good mom with a challenging child. She is happy and healthy and smart and not afraid to speak her mind. (sigh…) She is creative (sigh…) and determined and independent. These are good things.
The Attendance Avenger (that’s me) is damn good at her job. I know when a monitor is looking for (name changed) Fox Mulder, that kid is really Dana Scully-Mulder (grin) and her nickname is Fox. I know when a parent calls to excuse their child because they have a headache, that that kid has had a headache every Monday for a month. And I know who to point that out to. I can lay hands on nearly any given piece of paper in an office containing 8 file cabinets, three file boxes and four piles, within minutes of a request for it.
I can greet at least half of the students and parents in my office in a day by name. (That is a LOT of names.)
And as far as my writing–Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained has had 5,631 visits. Shades and Hues, the in-progress one, passed 1,000 hits today. Now I’m going to quote some reviews, because I really do need it today.
For NVNG– “That was extremely well-written and a lot of fun to read. And goddamn I stayed up till 2.30am just to read everything in one go although I have to get up early tomorro, arrrggghh. But it was worth it.”
For Shades and Hues– “I really needed the sweetness and the fun of the beginning of this chapter. I love how you bring the music into the fics without the tedious methods typically used in a “song fic”. I greatly admire how you subtly show Omi’s machinations. And then the last scene!! ((trying not to give spoilers here)) I was as flabbergasted as Aya. Wow. Great build up and timing. …and the visuals are sooooo lovely.”
But It’s Not Me (222 visits)– “so good. so very, very good. i really enjoy your characterization. i actually would like to see more of your farfarello; i like it when he’s given intelligence instead of just saying ‘hurt god’ all the time (when he never once says that in the series anyway!), and i like the personality you’ve given him. apart from that, the schu/brad dynamic crackles with energy, and i’m looking forward to more of this, and more of ‘feathers and boas’ also.”
Of Feathers and Boas (386 visits)– “yey!! I’m so glad you decided to write another story 🙂 Can’t believe you actually doubted your ability to write lemons (if I remember right from your last story). Gotta agree with Re***en, your use of words is really refreshing! Loved Aya’s wickedness. It’s a pleasure to read your stories, like your humour and the ideas you come up with. Your stories never fail to make my day, thanks a lot! :)” (Lemons, remember from my fanfic glossary, are explicit sex scenes.)
Out to Sea (374)– haha more more more….btw more….in answer to your question…gather everything and have it as one fic with several chapters…that way i can say you never finished the story and get you to write more… (the question I asked was whether to post one-shots as they popped out of my imagination, or try to write another long story.)
Those are all different reviewers, by the way. Oh, and the ones that haven’t passed a 1,000 visits are all what’s called “one-shots.” Meaning readers didn’t have to come back to read further chapters. I’m quite satisfied with 222 happy readers. (assuming they’re all happy, I haven’t had ONE bad review!)
Whattaya know. I feel better. Onward!
