How Important is My Job?

I do registration and attendance and records for over 800 students.  Seeing that enrollment and attendance are huge factors in deciding how a school is funded–and funding dictates how much paper, pencils, books, sports, etc, we can afford–you’d think that my role would be seen as an important one.  Especially when you consider that things like not notifying a parent of a student’s absence could lead to some nasty situations.  For that reason, we are required by state law to start notifying parents of absences within two hour of the child being marked absent.

Today as I was doing attendance an administrator brought me a letter and asked me to put it in an envelope and address it.  Sure, it wasn’t a big deal.  Sure, it only took two or three minutes.  But it kind of says reams about what that administrator thinks of my job, doesn’t it?
