That might work. Only I don’t like what it says about my writing.
Tonight I spent all evening trying to cram my 134,000 word magnum opus (dear God, I hope it’s the biggest book I come up with…) into a one page synopsis.
Mission accomplished! Yay me!
Damn that was hard. I worried for a while that my inability to do it, meant my book wasn’t in very good shape. They (they being experts, I’m assured) they say if you can’t summarize it, then it probably has some real problems. Answer some simple questions, and write a synopsis.
Well, in the end that’s what I did. Here’s what BJ sent me a long time ago. I still use it, over and over again. I wish I could remember what book she said it was from, so that I could pimp it.
-
Name your major characters, the problems, the setting, and the immediacy.
-
Tell which characters help and which characters hinder or complicate the problem.
- Give the outcome of the story and its theme.
Sounds simple, right? Yeah, so you go try it. 😉
Anyway. Done. Yay!! 417 words that were like pulling teeth…
Bring on the agents!
