I’m getting to appreciate Hope’s kindergarten teacher more every day. That wonderful woman emailed me every day.
Hope’s teacher last year was pretty good. She never emailed, but she was careful to let my friend know what kind of day Hope had every day.
This teacher has apparently been saving up problems for the conference. Nothing that big–Hope avoiding writing at every turn, and doing things like skipping in the cramped classroom and tilting her chair. So why wait till we were face to face? Thomas and I could have been working on these things all along.
Except, of course, Thomas is furious. He feels Hope has been lying to him, saying everything was fine. I understand seven-year-olds have a different definition of ‘fine.’ If she didn’t get sent to the principal’s office like last year, she was doing well. She thought.
I’m certainly appreciative of the improvement. But we need her to keep improving, and to encourage that we need communication. Clearly I’m going to need to be a little more pro-active. (How, I’m not sure, but I’ll think of something.)
In the meantime I just keep reminding myself that this year, she loves school. It’s never been that way before.
