Okay, can someone explain to me just why the hell we aren’t fixing Hubble? I mean, so I can understand. I’m a reasonably intelligent person, if letting that incredible tool slide into obsolescence actually makes sense on some level, I ought to be able to grasp it.
Then again, don’t. You’re not going to convince me that going to Hubble is too dangerous, when we can send the shuttle back to the ISS just to avoid paying Russia for taking our people there.
Remember when some decisions weren’t all about money? Me neither, but I like to pretend I do.
I hate that I’m becoming a cynic. But the fact is, there are people who care, and there are people who don’t, and the ones who don’t are running the damn show.
By the way, folks–where the hell did anyone get the idea exploring space was safe? As Q said, (something close to this, anyway) are we going to run home and hide because of a bloody nose? Yes, we lost some wonderful people. But they knew they weren’t guaranteed survival. They thought it was worth the risk. I say we honor their bravery by pushing forward. As safely as possible, certainly–but let’s just drop the idea that we’ can keep anything bad from happening if we just try hard enough, shall we? Before the next disaster–and there will be a next, if we keep trying–pushes us back even farther?
