Ya gotta love kind people. I got my car back today. Not only did the timing belt replacement come in under $400 (just barely, still–UNDER) but this lovely man adjusted my carburetor and got my car through emissions! I came home and paid the registration and penalties online and for the first time in three months, my car is LEGAL!!!
Just in time, too, I’d hate to miss Easter dinner because I was afraid of the apparently-more-observant police in South Tucson. I mean, I drove with a broken windshield over here for two years, went over there and got ticketed…
Even beyond his kindness, the man understood. When I talked to him the first time, I told him I needed to know if the timing belt problem was worth fixing, since I couldn’t manage to get the car registered. He asked me two questions.
“Is it your only transportation?” well, yeah, only have one car.
“Can you afford to buy another right now?” No. Really can’t.
“Then we’ll see what we can do.” And he DID IT!! Whahooo!
Yes, I really, truly hated not having a car for three days. I could have given you three days of rants about it, I chose not to. Just take it as read that I was really grumpy, Hope was really bored, and naturally I had no damn groceries in the house. And all my friends (all the ones that are still around after years of neglect in favor of my imaginary friends) were otherwise occupied this weekend.
Shit happens. Thank God so do kind people. Wish the ratio were more balanced, but I’ll take what I can get.
Thanks, Kurt!!
