Observant folks might have noticed the “Current Project” thingy has changed. I have decided that I did enough with Ben’s story to be able to pick it up more easily next time, and also that I needed more time for it. So Ben goes to the back-burner until summer. (The DOOMY Summer of Editing DOOM, if you trust my project predictor thing)
As some awesomely funny people would say, “And now for something completely different!” Fidelis. Steampunk. YA. Magic and madness and mood…
From a forum post dated 8/18/07:
argle. I got pounced by a…well, I can’t tell what kind of plot-animal it is, yet, except that it’s a doozy. Completely new characters with no connection to anything already written, seems to be urban fantasy (which I’ve never written and haven’t read much of) and a main character who apparently doesn’t speak. That should make it easy to hang the story on him, yes. :headthwap:
Why doesn’t he speak? How would I know? He hasn’t told me yet. He just keeps hanging out in the corner, staring at me with one big puppy eye. (the other is rather heavily bandaged. I don’t know if it still exists under there.)And why is he fourteen?And I have an appt, then the library, then work, then grocery shopping. Ayl’eo is going to be staring at me quite a while.
Hey! I got a name!
{Later}
My appt is over. I really should move on to the next thing on my list, but I don’t wanna. What I want to do is sit here and badger Ayl’leo (note the name is changing) about who beat up him and his partner. (Zord, Zword, something like that) and why they are here in the first place. Because they don’t belong here. (would also be nice to have a clue where they DO belong…)
Yes, that’s about how it begins. *grin*
So. He’s no longer Ay’leo or any variation thereof, because the urge towards mostly-vowel names and apostrophes should be restrained. His name now is Fidelis. Zord/Zword is now Gabriel, who carries a sword, but does not sound like one. And I know who beat them up, and why, and when.
What comes next I am still struggling with. That was supposed to be the plan of attack tonight, but I was distracted by some steampunk stuff.
Therefore, tomorrow. I have a full day planned, but I shall still try to get some things figured out. Because on top of all the other issues (blind MC, mute MC, genre I’ve never written in a POV I’ve never touched, et cetera) I’m also attempting a new plotting technique. Blame Sol Stein if it doesn’t work. If it does, of course, I get the credit.
Onward!
