We proved it once again last night–BJ and I together are a formidable creative force! We don’t even have to be talking about writing, we just have to be together, and the sparks start flying. What would I do without that jump start to my thinking, every two weeks?
Despite interruptions from a well-meaning neighbor, the awkwardness of meeting at her house for the first time–yes, I’ve known her six years or more, and never been to her house–and the decaf (yes, I requested it, yes, it was yummy! but I feel like a wimp drinking decaf) coffee, our evening was fun and productive. I got the recipe for Crazy Carob Coffee Cake, discovered while explaining to BJ why my Marine talks with an accent when she’s angry (it’s not her accent!), and discovered that Donte, a minor character in the first book, is not 12, but 16, maybe even seventeen.
Why is that important? Because if he’s twelve, the next book is about Jason, and I don’t know him very well. But if Donte is 16 or older, he can be the focus of the next book, two years after the first one, and Jason will be book three, four years after the first, in, as I call it, Dream time. I know Donte. And what may be more important, I know Selene, the stripper who helps him, and I can’t wait to write her. I haven’t been so excited about writing since I found out who and what Eve is!
Yes, I do write very strong women. Is it a surprise? At least I have men in my books. I have to, everyone knows reading about happy people is no fun, and how else you gonna mess up a woman’s life, than with a man?
