Obama said the health care bill will not require anyone to change their plans or their doctor. Yahoo fact check said:
THE FACTS: That’s correct, as far as it goes. But neither can the plan guarantee that people can keep their current coverage. Employers sponsor coverage for most families, and they’d be free to change their health plans in ways that workers may not like, or drop insurance altogether.
Yeah, okay. Question. Do you think it might be fair to point out we don’t have any guarantees NOW? I’ve been with the same doctor for twelve years, though my job changed about five times, and the employer I’ve now been with for about six years changes insurance about every year. But this year, though we didn’t change plans, suddenly my insurance is no longer good with my doctor–and at least a third of the health professionals in town. They couldn’t reach a contract agreement, and I have to find a new doctor.
The “fact check” article makes it sound like Obama’s plan will make private insurance less dependable, and that’s not fair. It’s unreliable all on its own.
I hear you. Two years ago, the hospital where my mother and sister work changed the insurance it offers to its employees. (Again, a nearly-annual occurance.) The catch was that the next year, they didn’t change their employees’ health insurance, but They Stopped Accepting It. Yes, the hospital offered its employees insurance that was so bad that they refused to accept patients insured by that company. Insane.
Oh man. That IS insane.
In my town, there are four easily-accessible hospitals, and two of them are Carondelet. Many, many, doctors, labs, et cetera, are associated with Carondelet. And NONE of them will take my insurance now. Not a one.
