Yesterday was a big news day. So naturally, I didn’t blog. About par for the course…
Okay, bad news first. I checked Saturday’s mail, and found a form letter rejection from DAW Books. My ms wasn’t even considered good enough to rate a scrawled “tighten it up and try again” or “good characters, plot drags” or anything.
I have decided this means it did not make it as far as an actual editor. It’s not hubris, or arrogance. I KNOW I’ve written a great story there. I also know, since working on Donte’s story, that I could have told Eve’s in a hell of a lot less than 199 thousand + words.
So when I get Donte done, I’ll take a loving scalpel to Eve. (Last time it was a machete. This will require more careful work.) She and I will recover. Eventually.
The good news, is Donte’s story grew by a whopping 3400 words yesterday!!! (Helps that he’s very miserable at this point in the story, and yesterday so was I!)
DAW, if you’re damn lucky, everybody else suitable will reject me, and I’ll be back to you by the time I get it right. Otherwise, watch my commercial success and weep!!!
