“Our findings suggest a serious threat to public health especially from coliform bacteria including E. coli which were detected in half of the bags sampled ” Charles Gerba co-author of the study said.
via Reusable bags a breeding ground for bacteria – KOLD News 13.
Okay, I get the need for this article. People should know. But in an age when they can’t show a thirty-second clip of the President of the United States walking off a plane without digging up a nutjob birther for “balance,” it’s a bit annoying that there’s no balance to be found here.
Why couldn’t they have looked around and found this, a ten-second Google search away?
Believe it or not, the filthiest [cell] phones can spread the dreaded staph bacteria, which can cause everything from skin infections to meningitis.
Or this?
Each time ABC News and Gerba ran an instant field test and later a lab test on swabs from the outside bottom of 10 women’s purses, every single one had at least some bacteria, most had tens of thousands and a few were saturated with millions. One even had 6.7 million bacteria.
(Same Gerba? I think so, but I didn’t search for that.)
Here’s the thing. Germs are everywhere. Either be paranoid about them, or don’t. But don’t go telling people those re-useable bags are dangerous without pointing out that everything else they touch is too. People have enough bullshit excuses not to do a damned thing towards going green.
