No springy. So not springy, in fact, that I didn’t get up till 0900.
Eeps.
But now I’m up. And I’m well rested. And it’s raining. That, my friends, is a fine combination for writing. For editing? We’ll just have to see.
I realized last night, though–I got through forty-three pages yesterday. That’s nearly a fourth of the book! Wow. Only I’m not so sure it’s a good thing. This one-pass thing isn’t easy.
Here’s what I’m trying to do: One-Pass Revision
And let me tell you–it’s not easy. The biggest problem, as mentioned last night, is that I’m not–or I wasn’t, anyway–as good at writing in scenes as I needed to be. It’s hard to look at it scene-by-scene when I’m not sure where the scenes end. Once I figure that out…I’m constantly forgetting to look for things. I wrote up a checklist from Lisle’s suggestions, but I’m trying to internalize it–so I don’t always check it, before moving on. Not to mention my muses are all working against me. None of them want our Deathless Prose ™ altered in any way. And it seems I’ve gotten a little too good at restraining my inner critic.
*sigh* Well, this is why I wanted to undertake it on vacation. Yes, I am forty-three pages in. But I’m going to start over. I’m going to insert page breaks where I think the scenes are, and I’m going to make a checklist where I check things off. I was in too much of a hurry last time. A little more organization will go far. And then…I get to…hmm. Either plot out the end of Keen and write it (and worldbuild his culture, ooh!), probably my best bet…or plot out (and worldbuild, double ooh!) Melissa.
No, you probably haven’t heard of Melissa before. She’s from my fantasy series. She’s a grumpy recluse of a writer (hee, sound familiar?) with the power to save two worlds. Only she doesn’t care much for either. Of course, I put things she does care about in danger, so she has to do it–she’s just real not-happy about it. *grin*
