I Call

It’s past midnight.  I paid the rent, cleaned house, fed the kid, and dealt with animals.

I also edited five scenes of Taro, and then got wrapped up in conlanging.  (CONstructing a LANguage)

That is so much fun!  I’m not playing, btw, even though it looks that way.  (just because I’m having fun.  *pout*)  Some friends are attempting to start an online magazine.  A long time ago I promised them I would contribute, but I’m not willing to go the non-traditional publishing route with Eve or any of her cohorts, and possibly shoot myself in the foot.  So.  A whole new universe is in order.

Tonight I’m working on the elven language.  My main character is an elf, though I won’t call her that, and already, just from spending a couple hours on her language, the ‘typical’ elven culture has transformed in the eyes of my muses.

For instance, the Vralny have no word for ‘child.’  Everyone is either ‘older one’ or ‘younger one.’  So one can only be a grown-up if there are no older Vral around.  Flame is…eighty, if I recall correctly (Flame is her chosen name, not her ulVral name) and no Vral treats her like an adult.  Even though she’s survived in the human (ulaWlek) world for forty years.

Didja notice the root word ‘vral’ changing form to do different duty?

I think that’s how it will work, anyway.  None of this is set in stone.  I’ve only been working on it a couple hours, and now I’m brain-dead.

But anyway.  Having a blast, and accomplishing something.

If conlanging sounds like fun to you, I heartily recommend Holly Lisle’s Create a Language Clinic.  Found here .
