Just saw a commercial for an SUV–one of the smaller ones–and it made a huge deal of the fact that the vehicle gets thirty miles to the gallon.
Umm–did I miss something? My 1988 Corolla gets 32. Yeah, they were talking about an SUV, but still! In eighteen years, they haven’t managed to improve any more than that ?
Oh, right. They have, vastly improved. Some of them. If I had the money for a new car, I could have a Toyota Prius. 70 miles to the gallon, folks.
Does that sound good yet, or do gas prices need to shoot up another dollar or two based solely on greed, before a Prius or the Honda equivalent seems like a good idea?
And to those who want to give the old BS about bigger cars being safer–Explorers aside, of course–my Corolla’s made it five years without a dink. Maybe what’s needed isn’t tanks, it’s better drivers.
