Thirty-four thousand, eight hundred ninety-five words. Damn, I’m good.
I was just thinking about that total, and the other “most” important rule of writing. There are a lot of them, aren’t there?
Okay, tonight’s most important rule of writing is–ass in chair. You don’t sit, you don’t write. You might ponder, you might scribble, you might have the whole damn thing mapped out in your head–but if your butt doesn’t hit the seat, your deathless prose is going to stay between your ears.
I think Ray Bradbury was the one who said figure on at least a million pages, before you write something worth keeping. As BJ and I tell each other frequently, no writing is ever wasted. We learn something new every time we connect a sentence.
So since this is a make-up blog and my writing evening still lies ahead of me–onward! To write and learn!
