I Need a New Brain

Or at least a back-up brain. Please?

At work I’ve long used the calendar function of old Outlook to remind me to do things, but I never got in the habit at home–one reason being that I don’t own that version at home.

Recently I decided I needed the brain back-up, and started using reminders in Lightning, the calendar add-on to Thunderbird. Unfortunately, after a few days, certain reminders just stopped popping up. For instance, I completely forgot to nag my kid about practicing her flute today. And I haven’t had the “what are you doing?” reminder to kick me back to work in days.

I need this help, unless/until I acquire a smexy butler to manage things for me. >_>

So I’m looking for suggestions. I need a reliable calendar with pop-up functions–sending me reminder emails doesn’t help. (Yahoo, for instance, only sends me about half the reminders I’ve requested, and half of those come after the event in question.) I want to be able to put in one-time events and daily reminders that I can snooze as with the aforementioned “what are you doing?” Snoozing that for half an hour at a time probably cut my internetting in half while it lasted.

Free would be nice, but if not, let’s go with “inexpensive.”

Help me out? I can’t be the only one out here who needs poked off the internet and then reminded what to do once she’s there.

  1. I use Google’s calendar for events/reminders. But for me it’s more of a “Oh hey, it’s National Space Weasel Day. Good to know.” I don’t really do the recurring reminders to get back to work, even though I really should.

For my daily to-do, I just have my handy dandy notebook…well notepad really. It’s fun crossing things off.

Perhaps you should dress one of your bishies in a suit and train it in the fine arts of butlering?

  2. How does a non-migratory butterfly’s attention span differ from a migratory butterfly’s?

I like my iPhone’s calendar/alert capabilities, inasmuch as I use any sort of calendar, but I doubt that’d help you much. :

  3. Well, one assumes a migratory butterfly can at least keep a destination in mind? Otherwise it’s meandering, not migratory.

Yeah, no iPhone and not likely to get one. 😉

  4. No clue, sorry. I use Google Calendar for appointments and things, but just the e-mail part of it. Don’t even know how the pop-up reminders work there. Sorry. Again.

If you find something good, post a link?
