Quoting from this site:
Congress passed a law in 1999 ensuring that all veterans could receive full military honors at their funerals. But it failed to include much money for the practice, and the military has largely turned to veterans organizations to provide the service. A few states grant small stipends to honor guards, but Minnesota does not.
Really? The government passed a law but didn’t supply money for implementing it? That doesn’t happen, does it?
I’m not flippant, just annoyed. We can all agree our veterans deserve full military honors, can’t we? So why does it have to be so hard? The article talks about how difficult it is to get younger people to participate. They have jobs; they have families. Many might think it’s sad that they can’t make the funerals–but read the article. That’s a lot of funerals! No matter how much you want to honor veterans, you still have to think about feeding your kids.
