Holy Cow, I Love the Internet!

I spent the morning writing, mostly, which was a good thing, because my afternoon was shot to hell. I hate the first of the month, there’s always so much junk that has to be done. I have five chapters of Star edited, though, and that’s a good thing.

When I’d had enough writing, I went online to see if I could track down some answers to some problems. First, the doctor’s last name doesn’t work. It’s too long, too hard to pronounce, and too hard to spell. All for no real reason. So it had to go. I figured I’d spend an hour chasing a better one and see where that got me. Like thumbing through a thesaurus in search of that elusive perfect word. The first one you thought of doesn’t work, neither do any of its synonyms, but then you track down the synonym of the synonym, and voila!

I had it in five minutes. I couldn’t believe it. So I typed in “military slang” in my search for the difference between utilities and fatigues, and bam! there it was. In case you’re wondering, fatigues are the armed forces’ work clothes. Utilities are what the Marines call them. That’s a good thing to know, since my doctor is Fleet (translate as Navy) and my captain is a Marine at heart, whatever uniform she wears. I, of course, had the terms turned around. Now I know better. I already fixed it, of course. Then I had time to play…

I heard today from a poet whose poem I responded to on the message boards last night. She seemed really encouraged and happy to hear from me. That’s why I responded in the first place, because not only was her work good, but I remembered how I felt when no one was writing in my guest book. So I wrote her a short, honest opinion, and I think I made her day. That’s cool. It’s really awesome when you can do something you want to do anyway, and make someone so happy.
