It’s like back in the old days when people smoked in restaurants. Okay, when I smoked in restaurants. I smoked. Yes. I don’t anymore.
Anyway. It was magic. We’d get our drinks, order our food, wait forever, light up cigarettes–and bam! Dinner arrived.
Due to sudden issues with my place of employment, I’ve been job-hunting. I started when I got back from Pinetop, putting in applications, sending out my resume, hitting every job I thought I could enjoy (that paid enough.) Though I was desperate to get out of the current job, I figured I’d wait on the “oh lork I don’t want to work there but I need an income” jobs.
Monday morning I had my first interview, for a position that I thought would be interesting. Then I researched it a bit more (Tip: to do well in an interview, it helps to know what you are interviewing for. And I don’t mean receptionist or taco tester.) I decided hey–I really like the sounds of this. I went in really wanting that job.
The interview went great, I thought. I was really sure they were going to call me. But that afternoon when I had a call to interview for a different position, I accepted. Can’t put all the eggs in one basket, I figured. If When the first interviewer called, I’d just cancel the second interview.
They didn’t call. All day Monday. All day Tuesday. Wednesday morning I had the interview at the other place, and neither one of them called. All day.
Today 2nd place called, to tell me they’d chosen someone else but they encouraged me to apply for a few other positions they had coming up.
Hey, I thought. That’s pretty good. That means I came in second, right? It was something to hold onto. But by then it was Thursday afternoon. First place must have decided to go with someone else. I held onto the comfort that I’d had two interviews so quickly, that I’d come so close already, and I tried to relax. I decided since my vacation is almost over (official return to work day is Monday) I should do something I don’t get to do much anymore–I should take a nap.
Twenty minutes after I lay down, my phone rang. 3rd place wanted to set up an interview. Hey, great–I’d love to! 3rd place is the local college, and I’d get cheap tuition if I worked for them.
Cheered but still sleepy, I lay back down.
1st place called. I start July 28th, at the very top of the pay range for the position. I can’t wait.
Now I get to write a politely worded letter to the people who made me want to leave my current job.
Top of the pay range! The one you really wanted! SO BLOODY QUICKLY! You are AWESOME and clearly the universe (and your new employer) realize it! *tackleglomps*
^___^
Eeeeee, congrats! *glomps*
thank you! *glomps back*
That’s great that you got the job. Congratulations!
Thank you! And welcome back. I missed you.
