You never know, when you move into a new place. Well, I suppose if you know you’re moving far enough in advance, or you move into a neighborhood you’re already familiar with…
We didn’t. Rarely even driven through the intersection before we moved over here, so we had no idea how Halloween was going to go. Would we have trick-or-treaters? Would we have vandals? I bought a big bag of candy and we waited to find out.
Because it was in the 90s all last week, we waited until the last minute to carve our pumpkins. They came out pretty well, I think.
We were just setting the jack-o-lanterns out as dusk was falling–and our first trick-or-treaters approached. We opened the bag and handed out Reese’s PB Cups, Milky Way Midnight, and others. When they were gone we retreated to the house to finish getting ready.
Housemate donned her tiara and princess dress. Kid was still in her bloody mess costume from school. I was going to stay out of the way, but I kept going to see the costumes.
At a quarter to eight, I made an emergency candy run. Due to a large number of trick-or-treaters (and a very generous housemate who was enjoying herself immensely) we were nearly out.
I think last year I had one trick-or-treater, and he got half my bag of candy. This year we went through most of three bags of candy. And no one knocked over or otherwise abused our pumpkins. So I’m calling that a success.

Here are some truly awesome pumpkins.
The Even the Score teaser is up on Turtleduck Press.
NaNo proceeds. Yesterday went really well wordcount-wise, but today I’ve been up over two hours and haven’t written a word on it.
…oops?
Yay for a good Halloween! We only had 36 trick-or-treaters, down from 42 last year and WAY down from our usual ~100. Just because it was cold and rainy. Kids these days – wusses. >_>
There were even 2 groups that were being driven door to door! Coddled! (Although given the depth of the front yards around here, I think they might actually have been outside LESS if they’d just walked house to house. But then they wouldn’t have been able to warm up in the car between. Again, wusses!)
Oh, and the pumpkins look great! We don’t really do them anymore. Too lazy.
the ants and flies were very grateful for our pumpkin carving. Ick! >.<
