I’m fully aware that it’s not time management skills I need, it’s self-management skills. Or, as an article I read tonight put it, attention management.
Knowing I’m far from alone in this, isn’t really much comfort. I want to do what I want to do, not what I end up doing! (And as I finish typing that, I reach for the mouse to go find the link to that article mentioned in the last paragraph, as the article explicitly says not to do…so I will look it up in a little bit.)
So anyway. Making a list. Probably there are more things on my wish list for the weekend than I could actually humanly accomplish, assuming decent amounts of sleep and otherwise laser-focus on my list. That’s okay. I’m going to make a list, and I’m going to try to do things, and if I fail…well, there’s always next weekend, right?
Weekend To-Do List
First up, really want to clean my room. It’s been getting out of hand of late, and I meant to do it last weekend and didn’t. I think it’s time to turn my mattress, too, which means dealing with the cat as she tries to “help.” She’s super lucky she’s cute.
Another thing I want cleaned is the carport. After my tax refund came in, I bought an island for the kitchen and a few other things that came in boxes. Those boxes are still in my carport, since the child keeps going conveniently deaf when I ask her to break down a box or two to put in the recycling. I need those to go away.
The back porch needs help too. I have done a little on it, but it needs more. (What it really needs is two young people not smoking out there, but we’ll work on that.)
Gardening. I bought seeds because they were going to plant them. They need to get on that, it’s flipping mid-March already! Our last frost was easily a month ago. This one is more a matter of pushing the children to work. I don’t plan on doing much gardening myself.
Meal-planning, grocery-shopping, cooking. Just want to…dip my toe in here. I don’t need to make a big plan. If I plan and cook one nutritious meal this week, I’ll be doing better than I have in a while.
Editing. I owe the awesome Erin Zarro an edit. I should finish the first run-through this weekend, and maybe start a second time.
Writing. I also owe a story, sometime soon. It’d be lovely if I started working on it before the actual deadline. (To help with that, I should probably look up the actual deadline.)
Book-stuff. There are things I should have done upon publishing In the Forests of the Night, but in the last-minute just get it DONE ALREADY, I did not. Need to go back and do them.
Movie-watching. I watched Age of Ultron, Civil War, and Ragnarok last week, to get caught up on the MCU so I could dive into Black Panther this weekend. So I want to do that. I’m also feeling the urge to rewatch Ghostbusters (Holtzmann is the BEST, fight me!) and Wonder Woman and Rogue One and Doctor Strange. And Pacific Rim because AAAHHHH UPRISING IS NEXT FRIDAY!!!! Oh, and I need to get my hands on The Last Jedi as well…and probably buy a box of tissues with it, shut up.
Also books. I have library books, and new books I bought when I was promising myself that SOON my own book would be turned in and I’d have time to read, and books that I’ve had since before I started that last book, and…yeah. Books. Need to read books.
I should stick a movie in now, actually, and go the bleep to bed to watch a movie and cross something off my list. just to make sure something does get crossed off my list.
Oh, and laundry. Laundry must be done. Laundry is an absolute necessity. It will be done.
Honestly, it may be the only thing on this list that actually GETS done…
Watch this space!
ETA: To-Done
Watch Black Panther so good!
Hurt my back not on the list, but i’ve done it, so I expect everything else will be much more difficult, blast it. Except watching movies and reading…
