What Else Would a Writer Give?

My writer-friend surprised me today, when she told me what she wanted for Christmas. First, we’ve never really exchanged presents, in like, eight years (ten years? could be) of meeting every other week for dinner and writing talk. Sometimes she made me a loaf of bread in her breadmaker, or I’d give her something, like a gel wristpad because she’d been complaining of using the mouse, but that’s it. So I was surprised.

Second, because she asked me for a copy of my Christmas story I’ve been working on. I hadn’t realized it meant that much to her. I’ve enjoyed (read ‘gloated over’) her responses to the snippets I’ve sent, but I didn’t know she liked it that much. I’m thrilled!

I think part of it’s that she likes my characters a lot, but my book is pretty intense. She’s looking forward to the Christmas story because she thinks I’ll wrap it up with everybody happy and peace on Earth. She may be right…

Anyway, now I have a deadline, so I better get to work! ‘Night, all!
